History
The Kennels were established by Diane Ballantyne in 1964 and she bred her first litter in 1968 while living with her parents in Camp Hill. Diane and her husband Rob moved to Greenbank in 1971 where they opened a small boarding kennel which they ran together while showing and learning about the breed.
In 1979 they sold the kennels and moved to Loganlea where they continued showing and breeding. In 1991 a growing family and increasing interest in the dogs saw the Ballantynes and Kantenna Kennels re-located to a ten acre property in the beautiful Wolffdene valley where they remain today. Kantenna German Shepherds have gone on to achieve many Excellent gradings, Breed Survey classifications, Australian Championships, Obedience Titles and Best in Show winners. Winner of the coveted GSDCA Gold Medal at the Australian Nationals plus two Silver Medals and a Bronze Medal. Winners of two Siegerin Titles at GSDCA Main Breed Exhibitions plus several Excellent select and multi Excellent gradings. Recipients of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia's Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals for hip results. We x-ray and breed survey all our dogs and our breeding stock have very good hip and elbow scores.
Diane and Rob are both Life Members of the German Shepherd Dog Club of Queensland. Diane is a past President and Secretary of the Queensland Club and has been active in the Club for over 40 years. Kantenna Kennels were amongst the first kennels in Queensland to use the GSDCA Tattoo Scheme and Rob was the first Club Tattooist in Queensland. Diane will celebrate 50 years in the breed in 2014.
